Sales, Marketing & Communications Jobs NZ:

As we see more confidence in the market place organisations are prepared to invest again in sales and marketing capability.  It’s curious to note that when the market dips, as we saw throughout the recent economic uncertainty, sales and marketing seems to be one the first cost centres to be put under pressure and driven down, when really this should be an area of investment for the future.  After the downsizing that has occurred over the past two years we are starting to see an urgency to rebuild teams.  There a definite appetite to increase capacity and capability across all areas of sales and marketing.  Organisations are looking to sales and marketing professionals to generate income in order to fund future growth and profitability.

Marketing Jobs NZ

As we move more and more into an electronic age there is a particular demand within the areas of digital and direct marketing, with slightly less focus on above the line communication. There is a clear shortage in most intermediate level positions, and this is more than likely a flow-on effect from the limited opportunities for graduates or juniors.  We are encouraging our clients to consider graduates when thinking about some of the more junior positions. There is a good mix between contract and permanent opportunities at the moment, and as the market continues to strengthen we will see more contract opportunities particularly for specialist positions.

Sales Jobs NZ

Sales professionals are only now putting their heads up to look at the market and new opportunities. However, there is still a cautiousness around changing positions, with a particular concern around OTE (on target earnings) and how achievable targets are to meet. There has been a flurry of activity in the first quarter of this year across the IT Sales sector, however, we are starting to seeing a softening of the market. That said there is a clear skills shortage in a number of specialist IT sales areas, such as ERP, Supply Chain and Middleware.

It’s important for sales and marketing professionals who are aiming to secure new positions to be able to demonstrate proven success.  Be prepared to discuss and show how you have succeeded with an acquisition or retention campaign, talk about the campaign and the outcomes. For sales professionals it’s very important to be able to demonstrate a track record of success, meeting budgets, onboarding new customers etc.
