The Company
Our client is a well-established New Zealand manufacturing business with a reputation for stability, quality, and strong financial processes. Due to continued growth, they are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team in a varied, hands-on role.This position offers exposure to month-end reporting, reconciliations, fixed assets, and wider accounting responsibilities, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their accounting career.
The Role
This on-site role reports to the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function across both transactional and accounting activities. You'll enjoy a mix of day-to-day responsibilities and project-based work while helping maintain strong financial controls and reporting accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with month end close activities, including journal preparation and uploads
- Preparing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving outstanding items
- Performing daily bank reconciliations
- Managing fixed asset additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations
- Supporting Accounts Payable, including invoice processing and supplier reconciliations
- Administering employee expense claims through Workday
- Assisting with GST, FBT, audit requirements, and other compliance activities
- Identifying opportunities for process improvements across the finance function
About You
To succeed in this role, you'll be a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in producing accurate work.Ideally, you'll bring:
- 2+ years' New Zealand experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Officer, or similar finance role
- Relevant finance degree with a desire to build a long-term career in accounting
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent communication and relationship building abilities
- A high level of accuracy, accountability, and initiative
- A continuous improvement mindset
