Communications Lead role
Contract:  3 months (with potential to extend)
Hours:  40hrs per week
Location:  North Shore
Ideal Person:  Strong communications, can take direction, use of initiative, self starter
Ideally seeking Health background.
 
  • Crafting messages and framing communications collateral across a variety of platforms and mediums to manage risk and contextualise issues for target audiences
  • Coordination of media enquiries to manage risk, ensure no surprises for stakeholders and to protect public trust and confidence in our services
  • Understand hidden risks and produce messages that steer away from these while supporting staff with accurate, timely information
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to prepare them for media interviews, where required, including development of key messages, Q&As, pivots and use of context, including practice run-throughs of questioning
  • Draft written responses that contextualise complex issues, with an emphasis on contesting inaccurate information or journalistic assumptions
  • Proactive media pitches on success stories that enhance our reputation among the community we serve, including development of messages, identification and coaching of ‘talent’, identifying suitable visual components and managing patient consent processes
  • Identification and curation of content for fortnightly CEO Note (or current equivalent)
  • Identification and curation of content for Weekly staff newsletter issued every Monday morning
  • Maintaining home page of intranet with news and information relevant to staff. Creation and scheduling of original content across our social media channels on a daily basis
  • Monitoring of feedback (public and private) on social media channels to remove offensive content and take conversations offline where appropriate
  • General coordination and oversight of events management and official visits, including run sheets, organising appropriate cultural input and general coordination with an eye to risk
  • Drafting corporate office correspondence – CEO forewords, etc
  • Proofing of patient-facing literature produced in-house (e.g. service-specific pamphlets, posters, booklets, some web content etc.)
  • Local management of messaging to primary care sector via Medinz
  • Photography and some video
  • Liaison with external communications stakeholders (e.g. Police, Department of Corrections, HDC)
  • Management and chaperoning of media visits to hospitals and services
  • Crisis communications in liaison with regional and national colleagues (e.g. COVID-19, Auckland floods)

There may also be an on-call component that would require the person to join a rota to hold our media line during the weekends on a periodic basis. A different pay model applies to this function.  Roster of 1 in every 3 weekends holding media phone. This is paid $500 gross for the weekend.
We are looking for someone who could work for at least three months – with a view to possibly having the contract extended to around Jan/Feb 2024 if there is mutual agreement.
