In this role you will work within the Growth Group. The Building Unit is responsible for ensuring the safety of people living and working in the building structures to ensure compliance with the NZ Building Act, Building Codes and Standards.

About the role:

Reporting to the Team Leader of Compliance and Monitoring, you will be responsible for the investigation of complaints, Warrant of Fitness reviews and revising building work to ensure compliance within regulations and codes. This includes processing building compliance applications.

It is also expected that you will provide support and assistance to your fellow team members which in turn contributes to the overall success of the team and unit.

Main responsibilities:

  • Receive and process applications for building consent ensuring compliance with the Building Act, Building Codes, and associated standards
  • Detect illegal, dangerous, and insanitary work and undertake appropriate action to obtain compliance
  • Monitoring of BWOF’s in accordance with the organisations target and priorities are carried out effectively
  • Advise Manager on matters that require legal remedy
  • Respond to and investigate all complaints regarding alleged breaches of the NZ Building Code and take action or report as appropriate

About you:

  • You will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively establish a rapport and manage ongoing, professional relationships with a wide range of people
  • Self-awareness that mindset is the foundation of performance and an ability to develop self and others in the is regard
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the building legislations, codes and the industry
  • Previous experience in legal or regulation enforcement
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Building Science and / or NZ Diploma in Building Control Surveying or equivalent
