As the Digital QA Engineer, we need you to focus on ensuring the quality and appropriateness regarding new software and enhancements to existing systems. You will also need to be able to support a framework of continuous delivery. You will proactively participate in Agile software design and build processes, as well as manual and automated assessments of software quality.

We need you to be a team player and a standout communicator – we are united! You will be someone who has experience improving software quality and delivery. You also need to be aware of risks and be able to take action and put in place appropriate controls when needed.

This role will have widespread exposure across the business and you can expect to work with people from the Enterprise Architect, Product, and Platform Operations teams.

This is a 3 month rolling contract based in Central Auckland.

About the role:

  • Help to ensure the quality and timeliness of new products and maintenance of existing products for both internal and external customers within the framework of the QA strategy.
  • Rotate on a regular basis to assist new customers onboarding onto the product and respond to complex queries, identifying & implementing ways to simplify future requests.
  • Support and maintain an Agile approach to software development, primarily using the Scrum framework.
  • Contribute to the assessment of non-functional requirements such as system performance and security policy adherence.
  • Liaise with other Quality Assurance Engineers to promote best practices and adherence to QA Strategy both internally and externally to the team.
  • Liaise with Business Analysts and Developers regarding refinement of requirements, test case design and the testability of products which enable earlier and more accurate assessment of product quality.
  • Contribute to the creation of robust, maintainable and reusable automated and manual testing frameworks and approaches for front end as well as back end (APIs, database etc).
  • Focus on a goal of automating tasks with each new user story related to API or front end and applying best practices to enable continuous integrated testing and continuous software delivery.
  • Self-manage and productively prioritize work in a fluent environment where frequent context switching is often required.
  • Perform thorough analysis of each new user story and document its test plan accordingly including any departmental or organisational risks, action appropriate controls and corresponding mitigation plans.
  • Any other duties as required by the QA Lead and/or Digital Technology Manager from time to time.

About you:

  • A tertiary qualification in computing, engineering or other analytical discipline that relates to the IT industry and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in manual testing for functional and non-functional requirements.
  • 1+ years’ experience in building test automation for API and front-end applications.
  • Familiarity and experience of testing web services, websites along with database systems. 
  • Demonstrable familiarity with modern development technologies and programming languages like Java, C# and Javascript.
  • Competent with version control concepts on code management systems like TFS and/or Git.
  • Ability to engage in both technical discussions with development team as well as discussions regarding customer needs and requirements to Business Analysts and Product Owners.
  • Experience with Agile software development, specifically the Scrum framework.
  • Strong team, inter-personal and communication skills. Desire to work closely with a variety of people, both inside and outside the company, who have differing viewpoints, priorities and technical understanding.
  • Ability to create innovative solutions by thinking "outside the box".
  • An ability to pick up and understand new technologies and complex solution implementations.
  • Understanding of technical aspects of software delivery such as SOAP, REST, XML, HTML, SQL.
  • Knowledge of other web based and mobile technologies/platforms.
  • Ability to analyse requirements and create matrices of test cases, following up on requirements with various parties as required.
