This is a larger commercial construction company in New Zealand’s construction industry, delivering complex, high‑value projects across the country. Their work spans large government facilities, heritage and historic building restorations, high‑rise apartment developments, and technical commercial refurbishments ranging from $10M to $150M. With a reputation for capability and precision, they consistently deliver projects of scale and complexity.
About the Role
Operating in a hybrid Estimator/QS capacity, you will play a key role in securing and successfully delivering projects. You'll be involved in pricing work, preparing competitive tenders, managing project costs, and supporting delivery teams to ensure projects are completed profitably.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing detailed cost estimates, take-offs and tender submissions
- Analysing drawings, specifications and contract documentation
- Obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Managing procurement and subcontractor letting processes
- Preparing budgets, cost plans and forecasts
- Monitoring project costs, variations and financial performance
- Assessing and negotiating variations and claims
- Managing monthly cost reporting and project cashflow
- Assisting project teams with commercial and contractual matters
- Producing final accounts and project closeout documentation
- Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
About You
You will be an experienced Estimator, Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Professional who enjoys variety and wants exposure across both pre-construction and delivery phases.
Ideally you will have:
- 7+ years' Estimating/QS experience within commercial construction
- Experience pricing and delivering projects/ECI projects with a main contractor
- Strong understanding of NZ construction contracts and procurement practices
- Excellent commercial acumen and attention to detail
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Proficient skills across Excel and industry estimating software
- Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar (preferred)
Salary: $140K – $170K, depending on experience.
