Job Description
We’re seeking a senior finance leader to provide strategic oversight and assurance across major financial programmes during a period of organisational transition for a high profile Crown Entity. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact role, acting on behalf of the Deputy Chief Executive to ensure continuity of leadership, governance, and delivery.
- Delivering $50m in annual savings across an $800m expenditure base.
- Managing governance of deferred initiatives while maintaining strategic alignment.
- Overseeing initiatives requiring Crown or Ministerial approval, including levy and borrowing changes.
The Role
- Providing strategic governance and reporting to ELT, Board Committees, the Crown, and external agencies.
- Acting on behalf of the DCE Corporate Services, maintaining executive oversight of the Finance Directorate and supporting strategic decision-making.
- Engaging with key stakeholders across central agencies, consulting partners, and internal leadership to ensure alignment and momentum.
- Supporting transition and integration of financial risk programmes into BAU structures as part of a broader organisational realignment.
What You’ll Bring
- Executive-level finance leadership experience (CFO, Finance Director, or similar).
- Proven success delivering large-scale financial transformation or cost-out programmes.
- Deep understanding of NZ public sector financial frameworks and central agency processes.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence at Board and Ministerial levels.
- A pragmatic, collaborative leadership style and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity.
