You'll work across a broad portfolio spanning financial reporting, fixed assets, taxation, reconciliations, compliance, audit support, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is more than a traditional reporting role. You'll partner with stakeholders across the organisation, provide technical accounting advice, contribute to business improvement projects, and help ensure the integrity of financial information that supports strategic decision-making.

What you'll be doing

Reporting into a supportive Team Leader, you'll be responsible for:
  • Managing month-end and year-end financial accounting processes
  • Preparing statutory and internal financial reporting
  • Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
  • Supporting external audits and annual financial statement preparation
  • Managing fixed asset accounting, capitalisation and asset register activities
  • Preparing and reviewing GST, FBT and other tax compliance requirements
  • Providing technical accounting advice to stakeholders across the business
  • Contributing to systems, process and policy improvements
  • Supporting finance-related projects, system enhancements and automation initiatives
  • Building strong relationships with operational leaders and finance colleagues to improve financial outcomes across the organisation.

About you

You'll be a capable and proactive Financial Accountant who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

We're interested in hearing from candidates who have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting
  • CA, CPA or equivalent qualification, or are working towards it
  • Experience in financial accounting, financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Exposure to fixed assets, taxation and statutory reporting
  • Experience working within a complex organisation, ideally a large corporate or public sector environment
  • Strong ERP system experience (SAP experience highly regarded)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to analyse issues, identify solutions and drive improvements
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute wherever needed.

What's in it for you?

  • Stable permanent opportunity within a respected government agency
  • Broad and varied Financial Accountant role with real scope and visibility
  • Exposure to complex accounting matters and large-scale finance operations
  • Supportive and collaborative finance team
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Competitive salary and attractive employee benefits package
  • The opportunity to contribute to work that delivers meaningful outcomes for New Zealanders.

If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical accounting, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement while working for an organisation with genuine purpose, we'd love to hear from you.
