NZDF is a unique employer and no two days are ever the same.  The Defence Force exists to secure the well-being of New Zealand and New Zealanders with responses that include providing stability and peace support operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and maritime surveillance.

How many employers run their own shipping, airline and land logistics operations?  At the Defence Force you will get an opportunity to work across multiple platforms and engage in a variety of interesting activities that support New Zealand. Defence Force staff are provided with career growth opportunities that would be difficult to match - while working to protect and benefit New Zealand in a culture built around commitment, courage, comradeship and integrity.

Due to growth and change within the NZDF Finance team, we are currently seeking a number of senior finance professionals to join us.  The three Financial Advisor roles are diverse positions with an opportunity to build your foundation knowledge and take ownership of advice provided to support your sub-portfolio.

What you will do:

You will provide key financial advice and information on financial planning to stakeholders located throughout the Wellington Region.  You will be responsible for providing finance support to your sub-portfolio, and collaborate with the Finance Business Partner to ensure consistent messaging and direction.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Informing and supporting decision-making through financial analysis and advice;
  • Generating and supporting the preparation of budgeting and forecasting plus monthly financial performance reporting;
  • Training and coaching assigned customers to ensure a high level of financial integrity is maintained; and
  • Providing financial management advice on NZDF Financial policies and procedures to internal NZDF customers.

What we need:

You will be confident to engage, train and influence stakeholders with a focus on clearly translating technical financial information to ensure understanding of non-financial audiences.  You will have a tertiary qualification in Accounting, and either be qualified or working towards a Chartered Accountancy (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification.

You will also have:

  • 2+ years practical working experience in a management accounting or finance role, ideally within a large organisation;
  • Good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
  • Good research and financial problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • An understanding of relevant standards, principles, policies, statutes, regulations and NZ Public Sector financial management practices.

Who we are:

The Finance Service Delivery Team provides financial and business decision support to NZDF portfolios. It provides business partnering, budgeting and forecasting, management reporting, costing, analysis and other services to support financial management and other business initiatives, projects and reviews.  Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Why Us:

NZDF is an inclusive organisation that is open to flexible working arrangements and welcomes applications from people regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, age, beliefs/opinions, or family circumstances.

In return for your expertise, dedication and hard work, NZDF is offering remuneration reflective of your experience, along with:

  • Great benefits for you and your family;
  • 5 weeks annual leave per year;
  • Flexible working environment and positive culture;
  • Variety, challenge and a chance to influence.
