We are engaged with a large public sector entity who are looking for an experienced Financial Operations Manager. The purpose of the role is to optimise the financial function across the overall business group, which is made up of two separate entities. The successful candidate will achieve this by providing financial leadership, advice & analysis whilst supporting its related systems and operational management.

The role leads two accounting and financial operations teams; one based in Wellington office and the other in Auckland. The role supports the Financial Management of the group to ensure the financial resources, systems and processes are efficiently and effectively delivered to achieve optimal outcomes aligned with our strategy and tailored to the needs of the business.

The Role

As the Financial Operations Manager, you will:

•    Direct and oversee all aspects of the finance & accounting operations functions ensuring timely and accurate information and financial management across;
•    Accounts payable and receivable
•    Maintaining an effective system of internal controls
•    Asset management
•    Authorising payments
•    Cash forecasting, treasury management and banking/payments
•    Responding to the business needs of both entities, while playing an active role in the internal control processes, including review, approval, release of payments, payroll, taxation returns.
•    Manage the payroll, tax, and audit functions and hold responsibility for all external reporting
•    Lead the financial systems maintenance and support systems evolution for the Group
•    Provide timely and accurate Group financial reporting with key insights/actions to improve future performance 


The Candidate

As the Financial Operations Manager, ideally, you will have:

•    Demonstrated capabilities in leading Finance teams including operational and advisory functions.
•    Experience and skill in developing strong relationships; influencing, leading, coaching and motivating
•    staff and key stakeholders
•    Knowledge of risk management systems and processes
•    Experience across People and Team Management
•    Excellent knowledge of NZ accounting, legislative and employment standards and international best
•    practice
•    Knowledge of the responsibilities of a Crown Agent (including NZ Public sector reporting requirements)
•    and an awareness of the wider social and political context in which it operates.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Sound judgment and decision-making skills and the ability to use these skills effectively under pressure
•    Competent in planning, managing, and prioritising multiple and competing tasks and projects to meet
•    deadlines and produce quality results
•    A qualification recognised by ICANZ or equivalent body; or significant demonstrable experience in an
•    equivalent role.
