About the Opportunity:
We are seeking an Associate Operational Experience Designer to join an exciting business transformation programme within a complex operational environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an Associate-level designer who is passionate about understanding how work is performed in practice and using human-centred approaches to identify opportunities for improvement.
Working closely with frontline laboratory teams, you will immerse yourself in the operational environment to understand current ways of working, identify challenges and pain points, and translate insights into improved processes, future ways of working, and supporting technology requirements.
Using Human-Centered Design (HCD), observation, stakeholder engagement, and process mapping techniques, you will play an important role in shaping future operating models and enabling successful business transformation.
This is a 6-month contract opportunity with potential for extension, offering a competitive contractor rate.
Key Responsibilities:

Work alongside laboratory staff to understand day-to-day operations, processes, and experiences.

Conduct discovery activities including interviews, observation, shadowing, and stakeholder engagement.

Capture and document current ways of working through process maps, workflows, and service interactions.

Identify operational pain points, inefficiencies, risks, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.

Develop clear visual artefacts, insights, and recommendations to support decision-making.

Support the design of future-state workflows, business processes, and operational requirements.

Collaborate with business stakeholders throughout discovery, design, and improvement activities.

Contribute to practical solutions that improve operational effectiveness and user experience.
About you:
This role is suited to an Associate Operational Experience Designer, Associate Service Designer, Junior Service Designer, Human-Centred Designer, or Process Improvement professional who is looking to apply their skills within a hands-on transformation environment.
You will Bring:

Experience applying Human-Centred Design (HCD) or Design Thinking approaches within operational, service, or business improvement environments.

Experience supporting discovery activities such as interviews, observations, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.

Experience creating process maps and documenting workflows (BPMN or similar experience is desirable).

Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify insights and improvement opportunities.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Confidence engaging directly with frontline teams and operational subject matter experts.

A curious, collaborative, and adaptable mindset with a willingness to spend significant time immersed in the business.
