Our client is a large and highly-visible multinational organisation with close to 150 retail premises located across the country. The payroll comprises in the region of 1800 employees, with a relatively high rate of attrition.

The New Zealand entity has been through a number of restructures over the past year and there is a longer term plan to transition to a regional shared services model from the beginning of 2022.

An opportunity is available for an experienced Payroll practitioner to join the team on a contract basis with an initial horizon at the end of the year and some potential past then. This will be a hands-on and relatively busy role, helping to train and develop a current team member, overseeing a number of ongoing projects (including an upcoming leave audit and a time and attendance project), troubleshooting current issues, writing process documents, and general reporting. The role will hold responsibility for managing the relationships with Datacom, the external payroll provider, as well as the business.

The role will require a relatively experienced Payroll Manager, someone with a continuous improvement mindset and strong legislative knowledge with the ability to see gaps in process and drive enhancements. An aptitude for reporting, including Excel spreadsheets, will be a key pre-requisite, as will first-rate communication and leadership abilities.
