The opportunity
Beyond Recruitment is supporting a central government agency to appoint an experienced Principal Advisor to a six-month, fixed-term role focused on strategic direction, performance, and implementation pathways.
This role is an opportunity to work on complex, system‑level issues, supporting Ministers and senior leaders with clear, well‑tested strategic advice.
About the role
This role will suit someone who is comfortable operating in ambiguity and can quickly move from discovery and analysis to practical, implementable actions.
You will work across agencies, bring diverse perspectives together, and help shape strategic objectives that are aligned to government priorities and organisational performance expectations.
What will you be doing?
- Leading complex strategic advice and priority workstreams
- Supporting discovery work to identify areas for government action
- Shaping strategic objectives and clear implementation pathways
- Applying systems thinking and design‑led approaches to problem solving
- Providing high‑quality advice and briefings to senior leaders and Ministers
- Working closely with stakeholders across government and partner agencies
- Contributing to quality assurance, coaching and mentoring within the team
What will you bring to this role?
- Significant experience in public sector strategy, strategic planning, policy, or public sector advisory roles
- Well‑developed analytical skills and sound judgement in complex environments
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and navigating sensitive issues
- Experience with Machinery of Government processes and executive briefings
- Excellent written communication and the ability to turn complexity into clarity
- The ability to work at pace, prioritise effectively, and deliver to tight timelines
