I'm looking for an experienced Data Engineer to take on a principal position in a not-for-profit organisation.
About the role:
The purpose of this position is to ensure that data is modelled, managed, and made available as a core organisational asset. This will include facilitating the connection of new private and public data sources, building, and maintaining data catalogue, working to build and maintain data governance and assisting with the design and maintenance of a data architecture. Working in the Data Team and with technical and business users to deliver successful business outcomes is a core component of the role. The Principal Data Engineer will work alongside the existing Engineering and Solution Architects and will be expected to provide direction and advice on best practice Data architecture, platforms, integration, and systems.

Key responsibilities:
- Design processes & systems to implement data lifecycle and retention rules
- Define data security and access policies for regulatory compliance
- Solution design for all products delivered by the Data Team
- Design, build (enterprise) data models, subject area conceptual models, logical models
- Design and Lifecycle management of data tools and platform, analysing trends
- Design integration and solution architecture and platform to publish rules and standards
- Develop new SQL queries in response to ad-hoc queries or as needed in reporting and dashboards
- Overseeing the build and maintenance CI/CD Pipelines
- Coach and mentor Data Engineers
- Oversee documentation of business rules and ensure consistency across the platform
To be successful in this role:
- 10 + years' experience designing and leading the conceptual, logical, and physical design for distributed databases
- Experience with Data Governance & Management (DAMA framework)
- Practical experience delivering data services and analytics utilizing cloud services, principally AWS and Azure
- Experience in building and socialising current state to future state roadmaps for data management from in-house to cloud based services
- Experience with big data management, visualisation and reporting tools, data profiling analysis and transformation would be advantageous
- Understanding of areas such as metadata management and data governance
- Proven experience in conceptual, logical, and physical database architectures, design patterns, best practices and programming techniques around relational modelling, dimensional modelling, and data integration
- Skills in using Airflow, Snowflake, Python, N8N and/or SQL
