Job Description
Senior HR Advisor (Contract)| Private Sector | Immediate start through to December 2026
I'm working with the Chief People Officer of a Technology business, who needs an experienced Senior HR Advisor for an urgent short-term contract. The contractor will be providing additional Generalist HR capability, while the People & Culture Manager is seconded into another part of the business.
This role requires a confident, self-managing HR professional who can quickly step into a busy environment and provide end-to-end generalist HR support. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across the full employee lifecycle, advising leaders, handling operational HR matters, and supporting ongoing people initiatives with minimal supervision.
A comprehensive handover will be provided, and the Manager will remain available for escalations and support when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide trusted HR advice and guidance to managers, Heads of Service, and senior leaders.
- Manage a broad range of generalist HR activities, including employment agreement variations and day-to-day people matters.
- Support managers with employee relations queries and risk management. While formal ER activity is currently low, the ability to confidently manage issues as they arise is important.
- Provide guidance on areas such as ACC, return-to-work arrangements, and employment legislation.
- Monitor and respond to queries through the People inbox.
- Support the administration and ongoing implementation of a HRIS (ELMO), including the rollout of additional modules.
- Assist the Talent Acquisition function during peak recruitment periods as required.
- Help ensure consistency of HR practices across multiple office locations, including New Zealand and Australia.
About You
You will be an experienced HR generalist who can quickly become productive in a new environment. Ideally, you will bring:
- Significant experience across the full spectrum of generalist HR.
- Strong employment relations knowledge and the confidence to advise managers independently.
- The ability to work autonomously and prioritise effectively.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach with strong stakeholder management skills.
- Experience supporting HR systems or HRIS implementations would be advantageous.
- The resilience and adaptability to step into a contract role and add value from day one.
Working Arrangements
- Full-time contract role.
- Primarily office-based, five days per week.
- Modern central Wellington offices with excellent facilities (including delicious coffee, and an even better view!)
- Immediate start preferred, ideally within the next one to two weeks.
- Contract Rate in the region of $80-$100 per hour, depending on experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR contractor looking for a hands-on role where they can make an immediate impact and support a collaborative people team during a period of transition.
