Senior People & Culture Advisor
6‑month contract | On-site role, Porirua
Private sector organisation

I'm supporting a fantastic private sector organisation who are navigating a period of significant transition and are seeking an experienced Senior People & Culture Advisor to provide steady, hands‑on support, guidance and momentum during the next six months.

This is a true senior generalist contract, supporting day‑to‑day People & Culture operations while also helping lift capability and confidence across the business. You’ll work autonomously, build trusted relationships with leaders and staff, and play a key role in stabilising and strengthening core HR practices.

The opportunity

This contract will suit someone who is comfortable operating across the full HR lifecycle, with particular emphasis on:
  • Providing practical, solutions‑focused P&C advice across ER, recruitment, payroll and administration
  • Supporting and advising leaders through team and organisational change
  • Oversight of payroll and administration activities, including involvement in a payroll remediation process, review and audit
  • Interpreting and applying NZ employment legislation in a pragmatic, business‑focused way
  • Contributing to cultural uplift and capability development, including coaching and day‑to‑day guidance
  • Building confidence and continuity within the People & Culture function during transition

While this is a contract role, there is a longer‑term People & Culture vision in place. The successful contractor will be energised by the opportunity to help shape foundations for the future. There may be potential for longer‑term options to join the organisation (though this is not a requirement!)

About you

You’ll bring strong, practical HR experience and be confident working independently in a fast‑moving, operational environment. To be successful, you will likely have:
  • Broad senior HR generalist experience across payroll, ER, recruitment and HR operations
  • Solid hands‑on payroll experience, including the capability to identify, reconcile and resolve issues
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or similarly hands‑on environments (as opposed to large, layered HR teams)
  • High numerical and verbal confidence – comfortable working with data, spotting issues, and communicating clearly in writing and face‑to‑face
  • Proven ability to engage confidently with leaders and staff across the business
  • A practical, down‑to‑earth approach and the ability to build trust quickly

The logistics

Contract length: 6 months
Location: On‑site, 5 days per week (flexibility for start/finish times where needed, e.g. childcare, with full‑time hours maintained)
Rates: Contracting $100–$120 per hour to the contractor
Fixed‑term equivalent: circa $120,000 per annum

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced People & Culture contractor who enjoys being close to the business, adds value quickly, and is motivated by helping organisations through meaningful change.

Please note: you must have current right to work in New Zealand to be eligible for this role.
