Job Description

Senior People & Capability Advisor
Permanent, full-time role
Wellington based with flexible working options
Competitive salary and benefits

Shape leadership capability. Influence culture. Make an impact.

Are you an experienced HR practitioner looking for a role where you can truly partner with leaders, navigate complex people challenges, and contribute to meaningful organisational outcomes?

This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven organisation at a pivotal time, supporting leaders to build engaged, high-performing teams while helping deliver initiatives that strengthen organisational capability, culture, and performance. The role combines strategic partnering with hands-on delivery, giving you visibility across the business and the ability to influence real change.

The opportunity

As a Senior People & Capability Advisor, you'll be a trusted advisor to leaders, providing expert guidance across a broad range of people matters. You'll work closely with stakeholders to enhance leadership capability, manage complex employee relations issues, support organisational change, and contribute to the delivery of people initiatives that align with the organisation's strategic direction.

No two days will be the same. One day you may be coaching a leader through a challenging employment relations matter, the next partnering on workforce planning, contributing to a people project, analysing workforce trends, or helping shape improvements to people policies and practices.

This is a role for someone who enjoys building strong relationships, thinking strategically, and delivering practical, people-centred solutions.

What you'll bring

You're an experienced HR generalist who enjoys working across the full employee lifecycle and has developed a reputation for providing credible, pragmatic advice.

We would like to hear from candidates with:
  • At least five years' Generalist HR advisory experience.
  • Strong employment relations capability and confidence managing complex people matters.
  • Experience partnering with leaders to build capability and performance.
  • Sound understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery.
  • Confidence using data and insights to support decision-making and drive improvements.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and a genuine passion for helping people succeed.

Experience within the public sector or another complex, regulated environment will be advantageous. Exposure to HR technology, data analytics and emerging AI-enabled tools would also be beneficial.

In return, you'll enjoy:
  • A varied and interesting portfolio.
  • Genuine stakeholder engagement and strategic exposure.
  • The opportunity to work on meaningful organisational initiatives.
  • A collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • The chance to make a visible impact while continuing to develop your own capability and career.
This is an opportunity to work in a values-led organisation where people genuinely care about the impact of their work and the contribution they make to New Zealand communities. You'll join a supportive People & Capability team, partner with engaged leaders, and have the opportunity to influence decisions that shape capability, culture, and organisational success.

In addition to meaningful, purpose-driven work, you'll enjoy a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, development and work-life balance, including:
  • Five weeks' annual leave, plus the option to purchase an additional week each year.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working options and flexible hours.
  • 3.5% KiwiSaver employer contribution.
  • A generous wellbeing programme, including up to $500 annually towards approved wellbeing activities
  • Strong investment in professional growth, including an annual professional development fund, learning opportunities and payment of relevant professional memberships.
  • Comprehensive parental leave benefits and long-service recognition.
  • One paid day each year for community volunteering.
  • A collaborative, values-led culture that prioritises connection, learning, inclusion and employee wellbeing
