Senior People & Culture Advisor (ER/IR)

Are you an experienced Employment Relations and Industrial Relations specialist looking for a role where you can make a meaningful impact across a complex, values-led organisation?
I am partnering with an iconic Kiwi organisation to appoint a senior ER/IR practitioner in a newly-established role. The Senior Advisor will provide expert advice, guidance and leadership on employment and industrial relations matters.
This is a key specialist role within a People & Culture team that is focused on building capability, promoting good practice, and supporting leaders to confidently manage people matters. The successful candidate will be the recognised subject matter expert for employment relations and industrial relations, helping ensure workplace issues are managed consistently, fairly and in line with legislative requirements.

About the role
This role combines hands-on case management with strategic advisory responsibilities. Working closely with People & Culture colleagues and leaders across the organisation, you will:
- Provide expert advice on complex employment relations matters, including performance, conduct, disciplinary processes, investigations and organisational change.
- Oversee and quality assure employment relations case management, ensuring matters progress appropriately and risks are effectively managed.
- Coach and support HR practitioners and people leaders to build confidence and capability in managing employment matters.
- Lead the organisation's response to complex, sensitive or high-risk employment issues and personal grievances.
- Conduct workplace investigations and oversee investigation processes where required.
- Act as the primary relationship manager with the organisation's union and lead collective bargaining activities.
- Contribute to a positive, high-trust workplace culture through practical, people-centred advice and sound judgement.
About you
You are an accomplished ER/IR professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent coaching and relationship management skills. You are confident working independently on complex matters while also building capability in others.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Significant experience managing complex employment relations matters through to resolution.
- Proven experience leading or playing a key role in collective bargaining and industrial relations activities.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Experience coaching HR practitioners and people leaders.
- Exceptional communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to balance legal risk, procedural fairness and pragmatic outcomes.
- Experience operating in a unionised environment.
- Workplace investigation experience is desirable.
