Fixed Term – Wellington - Midpoint - $115k
We are partnering with a prominent public sector organisation to appoint a Senior Procurement Advisor into a standalone, CFO‑reporting role within a Finance & Operations function.
This is a hands‑on, end‑to‑end procurement role suited to an experienced generalist who enjoys autonomy, visibility, and making a tangible impact across a diverse organisation.
The Opportunity
As the organisation’s sole senior procurement advisor, you’ll operate as a trusted partner to leaders and delivery teams across the business. You’ll provide expert advice, design fit‑for‑purpose procurement approaches, and lead live procurement activity across a broad range of categories.
The role currently has two active projects underway:
- A construction / infrastructure procurement (bridge replacement)
- A corporate systems procurement (HRIS)
Beyond these projects, you’ll support procurement planning, contract formation, and supplier engagement across goods, services, and works, while helping uplift procurement capability across the organisation.
This role reports directly to the CFO, offering genuine exposure and influence at a senior level.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver end‑to‑end procurement activity across multiple categories
- Provide clear, pragmatic procurement advice to senior leaders and business teams
- Develop and apply procurement strategies aligned to public sector and AoG requirements
- Support and guide the organisation through sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and contract establishment
- Embed consistent procurement and contract management practices
- Build productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
- Balance strategic thinking with practical delivery in a fast‑moving environment
About You
You’ll be confident operating with a high degree of independence and comfortable being the “go‑to” procurement specialist.
You will likely bring:
- Demonstrated experience in public sector procurement, including working within All‑of‑Government frameworks
- Experience across construction / infrastructure and corporate or ICT-style procurements
- Strong commercial judgement and sound knowledge of procurement policy and practice
- The ability to influence and advise at senior levels without formal authority
- A pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach and a collaborative working style
Contract Details
- Fixed‑term role through to the end of August
- This is due to an organisation‑wide hiring freeze while a broader organisational review is underway
- The work is confirmed as ongoing, and the role is not impacted by the review
- This is a genuine opportunity to step into meaningful work with continuity beyond the immediate term
Location
