Due to growth and change within the NZDF Finance team, we are currently seeking a number of senior finance professionals to join us.  The Senior Project Analyst will be empowered & take ownership of financial project analysis to provide insights for major acquisition projects across an entire domain or portfolio.

What you will do:

Your primary focus will be leading the development of whole of life costing models for business case and Cabinet Paper development across an entire Domain or Portfolio.  You will work autonomously across all capital projects related to the Domain’s capabilities providing the financial advice, information and analysis.  The projects range in size and complexity, some with tight deadlines and deliverables.

A typical day could include:

  • Providing financial information and advice relating to assigned Defence Capital investments;
  • Engaging with project and programme managers to provide financial support for potential military capability and upgrade/disposal scenarios;
  • Developing, maintaining and reporting on the financial aspects of Capability Management Plans to NZDF senior management and NZ Government; and translating technical advice from military specialists across all levels of the organisation into clear and concise financial impacts.

What we need:

Your stakeholder engagement will be key to your success; you will bring excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to positively engage and influence through providing costing leadership and translating technical information effectively.

You will also bring:

  • Proven practical experience in a finance/accounting or similar business analytical role in a large, capital intensive organisation;
  • Excellent theoretical understanding of and practical experience in whole of life costing, financial modelling and valuation techniques;
  • Proven ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgement while operating with a high level of autonomy;
  • Understanding of project management methodologies (such as PRINCE2) and through-life asset management principles; and
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills that inform and enable business decision making.

The Capability & Strategic Projects Team provides insight and analysis related to NZDF capability spend, capital portfolio management and utilisation to support strategic capability decisions. Higher level Security Clearance:

  • Most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten (10) years, OR
  • Is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one of more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years; either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
