This role comes about as growth and acts as an important component in the delivery of its core business services.

Reporting to the commercial manager, the role is critical in terms of leadership, executing strategy, team management and being able to shift priorities in an ever-changing workplace environment. They are looking for a strategic leader, a technically switched on QS that has the dynamism to change gears when required, that can massage pricing and is well connected to market rates.  

Key responsibilities are summarised as follows:

  • Sourcing, negotiating with suppliers and sub-contractors to establish contracts
  • Providing and reviewing pricing for contracts
  • Working in collaboration with project managers to establish contracts
  • Executing progress payments for suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Undertaking cost audits between project delivery and contract
  • Evaluation of supplier and sub-contractor performance
  • Reporting monthly on cost activity against budgets and any arising cost/contractual issues with managers  
  • Variation management
  • Cost management and financial reporting
  • Team management up to 4 staff
  • Health & Safety Management, including incident investigation, reporting and recording
  • Stakeholder Management (internal & external)

Success in this role will require the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum 8 years estimating/quantity surveying experience in underground infrastructure and/or civil engineering construction
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Quantity Surveying
  • Experience with systems software such as Cost X/Candy
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Ability to build strong stakeholder engagement
  • Team management and mentoring skills
  • Experience and ability to be able to create contracts
  • Highly organised and self-motivated
  • The ability to solve problems and think quickly on your feet
