Our client is a well recognised organisation in Tauranga. Its strategy and vision is all about engaging with the community; from business to the wider local community. As part of the vision reset, the community is at the heart of every interaction.

Our search is to identify a Team Leader Community Relations. Reporting to the Community Relations Manager this role has overall responsibility of leading a team of advisors that will support the effective delivery of community relations. Providing strategic advice and support across the organisation in communication and engagement. Building relationships that connect the organisation with the community.

Critical to your success will be:

  • Leading a strategic community centred approach to communications and engagement.
  • Provide strategic advice to internal clients on community relations.
  • Identify areas for improvement & develop best practice across all activities.
  • Develop communication and engagement plans in conjunction with the project/project manager of area.
  • Leverage experience, insights & access to knowledge to ensure that all stakeholder preferences are part of the plan.
  • Train and develop internal teams to build capability. Running coaching & mentoring programmes.
  • Actively establish relationships internal & external including other connected organisations, community groups & business.
  • Identify opportunities to increase the visibility of the organisation working collaboratively to build sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Demonstrate a strong customer service ethic & set clear expectations for your team to deliver.
  • Develop wide external and internal relationships including the media, local & central government agencies, Maori based groups and the community.

Critical Competencies for selection will include:

  • A degree in Communications or Engagement or a related field.
  • Several years experience at a senior level in a relevant field.
  • Proven people and team management.
  • Experience working with multiple cultural & diversity groups including iwi.
  • A high standard of written & verbal communication skills across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking – focusing on the big picture.
  • Presentation & facilitation skills.
  • Experience in digital communications & engagement in conjunction with non-digital channels.
