*** Roles like this one are a rare find - you need to seriously consider this option!
This organisation is looking for a bright, switched on individual to join their IT team as a Business Analyst.
The key thing is that you have had some experience of carrying out business analysis activities already. It would be ideal if you have some systems development background, and your certainly need to have a good understanding of the SDLC and IT systems in general.
ABOVE ALL you have to be keen as mustard and willing to soak up complex IT technical knowledge quickly. You also need to be a warm, friendly person who can engage easily with a range of other IT and non-IT professionals.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
The organisation is a prestigious and highly regarded government agency based in central city Wellington. Their IT site is small but complex. As a result the IT team consists of only 10 people, but all of them are highly capable in their respective IT fields.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the IT Manager (one of the nicest IT management professionals around by the way), you would be involved in carrying out a full range of business analysis activities.
This is the sole dedicated Business Analyst in the team, so you do need to be keen to find a situation offering a lot of variety and where no two days are ever the same.
A lot of the work is project based, so you definitely won't be bored!
Broadly, the responsibilities include:
- liaison with business users to develop user requirements
- hosting workshops
- developing functional specifications
- documentation (so your written communication skills have to be very good)
- reporting and analysis
Some awareness of the Agile methodology would be helpful, but it isn't in any way a 'must have'.
Essentially, this is the sort of role that, the more you show what you are capable of, the further you can make the job - and your career - go.
They offer an interesting, diverse role and a chance to work with some of the smartest professionals you will find anywhere.
