**About the Company:**

* Responsible for the delivery of the centralised systems and applications infrastructure to support Auckland
* The primary objective of is to provide technology-related services that support the core functions together with enhancing the experience
* Delivers a range of services across the business and has responsibility for both operational and leadership roles in the provision of Information Technology
* It plays a key role in ensuring the core IT infrastructure and systems of the organisation are both reliable and secure
* The services that are provided continue to change as new technology and systems are added to the responsibility of the unit, and IT Services has a core responsibility to adopt and manage those changes
* Works closely with other IT teams in the rest of the business, in order to meet the IT requirements


**Purpose:**

* Design, install, administer, and optimize company servers and related components to achieve high performance
* Assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data centre/server farm
* The engineer must be able to deal with all issues that arise, and lead decision-making concerning IT projects and solutions
* Supporting implementation, upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of services within the division
* Managing, maintaining, and providing system administration 2nd and 3rd level support for systems
* Ensuring that systems and services operate efficiently and effectively to ensure all required Service Level Agreement targets are met
* Investigating and owning escalated incidents and requests to resolution
* Fulfilling and managing project plans or work requirements as directed
* Interacting with other departments to play a proactive and valuable role in providing Services to the organisation as a whole


**Responsibilities:**

* Responsible for the continuity and maintenance of the server environment
* Creation and modification of user accounts and permissions; while providing high quality support with the stabilization and safeguarding of the present networking infrastructure
* Setting up batches and Scripting (bash / shell etc)
* Configuration of New Systems and Maintaining and upgrading existing systems
* Performance monitoring and fine-tuning
* Creating and/or documenting all systems and administration tasks
* Apply and maintain the security policies according to Audit standards
* Create, test and implement Linux / Unix scripts
* Provide technical support for business servers
* Ensure the adherence to architectural standards
* Ensure conformance to established standards
* Perform server builds
* Install and configure server and hardware upgrades.
* Execute basic data backup recoveries; antivirus software and pattern file updates
* Perform operating system upgrades and patches


**Qualifications and Experience:**

* Degree or Diploma in IT (BSc Computer Science / Information Systems)
* Working knowledge of hardware platforms
* Working knowledge of network protocols and technologies including DHCP, DNS and firewalls
* Working knowledge of backup technologies
* Working knowledge of Cloud based software solutions
* 5 Years experience and LPI or Red hat / Redhat will be advantageous
* Diversely skilled in Networks, administration, desktops, Cisco, Virtual (virtualisation) environments, security etc
* Have excellent system administration experience in Linux/Unix performance & tuning skills
* Linux/ Unix product administration such as Apache, Disk Suite, Volume Manager
* Good understanding of the Linux/Unix architecture.
* Good understanding of server clustering principles and products
* Must have a good knowledge of scheduling, scripting and batches
* Security implementation
* Experience with administering Windows, Ubuntu, Zenoss, Suse, Centos and Fedora servers
* Proficient knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP networking and Remote Access Networking (Citrix, RAS, VPN, etc.)
* Expert-level ability to identify and troubleshoot network and server performance-related issues
* Expert-level ability to assemble servers; install updates and patches
* Server support experience, networking and basic database administration / security (Firewalls) skills are essential
* Must have in-depth knowledge to give definitive and authoritive advice on all servers in use
