Beyond Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a major public sector organisation to appoint an exceptional Evaluation Lead Advisor- a senior role shaping evaluation practice at scale and influencing outcomes at a national level.

This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned evaluation advisor who brings deep mixed-methods expertise and a pragmatic, delivery‑focused approach to working in complex government environments.

The Role
As the Lead Advisor, you will set the direction for how evaluation is designed, delivered, and embedded across a large, diverse organisation. You will provide senior leadership across a wide evaluation work programme, ensuring evaluation activity is high‑quality, fit‑for‑purpose, and focused on impact.

You will:
  • Lead and oversee complex, high‑value evaluation projects
  • Provide thought leadership on evaluation best practice, frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
  • Strengthen organisation‑wide capability by coaching and mentoring managers, principals, and analysts.
  • Influence senior leaders and shape how evidence is used to inform decisions, manage risk, and improve outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation and the wider sector, contributing a whole‑of‑system perspective.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being both a strategic leader and a hands‑on expert, and who thrives in environments where evaluation must be practical, credible, and actionable.

What You Bring
You will be a respected evaluation expert with:
  • Deep knowledge of evaluation (mixed‑methods, quantitative and qualitative).
  • A track record of delivering high‑quality work in complex environments, preferably within a New Zealand government context. 
  • Experience designing evaluation approaches.
  • The ability to provide clear, balanced advice on issues of high complexity or uncertainty.
  • Strong communication skills and sound judgement.
  • Principal-level or significant Senior‑level experience in policy, research, evaluation, or information analysis.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who can lift capability, embed best practice, and influence at scale.
