We’re supporting a central government organisation with a critical and transparent mandate to improve lives for Kiwis. They are now looking for a Principal Advisor, Investment to help lead the development and embedding of a new system-wide approach to property investment. It’s a role that sits right at the heart of how government money is prioritised, assessed, and deployed to deliver better long-term results for communities across Aotearoa.
 
About the role
This is a senior, influential position within a team that brings together investment, commercial, public finance, policy, and strategic thinking. Your work will help shape how investment decisions are made ensuring large-scale investment initiatives are effective, fiscally sound, and delivering real value.
You’ll play a key role in designing and refining investment frameworks, guiding organisational decision‑making, and providing trusted advice across complex, high‑value work. The role combines system-level thinking with hands‑on leadership of meaningful initiatives, ranging from preparing strategic papers for senior leaders and Ministers through to supporting teams to apply new approaches across the organisation.
This is not a project-specific role; instead, you will help lift capability, embed consistency, and drive a smarter, more aligned approach to investment across the whole system. From time to time, you’ll also step into high‑risk or high‑value pieces of work to provide specialist advice, technical assurance, and thought leadership.
 
About you
You’ll bring a background in commercial, investment, public finance or similar, and be confident navigating both technical analysis and strategic advice. You know how to design frameworks that actually work in practice, and you’re equally comfortable coaching others as you are leading complex pieces of work yourself.
