Beyond Recruitment is excited to be recruiting for a Gardener/Handyperson. Join a small team within a lovely modern Retirement Community as their full time gardening expert! 
As the Gardener, you will apply your knowledge and ability to cover every aspect of delivering a professional lawn and gardening service from pruning/trimming and fertilising to planting, irrigation or pest and disease management. You will also have the opportunity to occasionally drive residents to their weekly outings and get involved with basic painting and practical tasks so your ability to be flexible along with the genuine love of elderly people is key.  
Your role will include:
  • Maintaining lawns and other green spaces, including seasonal planting, lawn mowing, watering gardens, pruning, hedges, etc.
  • Keep walkways clean, tidy, and safe for use for elderly residents.
  • Improving landscapes and designs, by re-planting and adding suitable new plants where necessary.
  • Monitoring and ensuring plant health, as well as spraying of weeds.
  • Arrange the removal of garden waste.
  • Work closely with and support the wider village team.
  • The ability to carry out maintenance jobs where necessary, by supporting the wider maintenance team, including painting, hard landscaping, minor alterations, and other maintenance projects.
  • Ability to flex when weather inhibits gardening to support routine maintenance requirements including but not limited to room and water temp monitoring, assistance to set up or to stage care suites and apartments.
  • Support residents with their communal vegetable gardens.
  • Assist with driving the village van for care or independent residents.
  • Mulch, edge, and weed gardens.
  • Maintain all gardening equipment and machinery, like mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • Deal with pest problems that could damage plants.
  • Keep gardens and green spaces clear of debris and litter.
  • Promotes a culture where health and safety is seen as integral to success through planning, delivery, monitoring and review of health and safety processes.
Skills we require are:
  • Knowledge of local plant pests and how to eliminate them.
  • Extensive knowledge of regional plant life
  • Proven experience in a Gardening / Landscaping Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilizers
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations for landscaping
  • Horticultural qualifications would be an added advantage.
  • Physically fit and the ability to lift heavier objects with the required training.
  • The ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time.
  • A love of the outdoors and plant life.
  • A good command of the English language with clear communication skills and the ability to talk to a wide range of older people.   
  • Be reliable, friendly, and professional.
  • Current full, clean driving license.
  • Excellent time keeping.
