An opportunity like no other currently in the market! I am recruiting for a Head of Procurement role with a reputable public sector organisation. You will be influencing the way the organisation services its customers and engages with the New Zealand community.

The purpose of this role is to develop strong relationships and robust processes that support teams across the organisation in order to deliver their procurement and supplier management outcomes. The role will involve facilitating strategic spend planning, managing compliance with internal & external government requirements and ensuring all employees and processes meet organisational procurement standards and expectations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain critical relationships and networks across the government sector
  • Planning policies and procedures for efficiently purchasing goods and services to support the organisation to deliver to legislative requirements and support its future operating model
  • Building a Procurement Centre of Excellence with processes, systems and services that deliver fit for purpose procurement and support post-contract management approaches
  • Being the ‘go-to’ person for other Business Units for guidance on strategy, plans, frameworks, approaches and risk management that ensures joined-up thinking and alignment with the strategic direction and messaging
  • Attracting, recruiting and developing a team with the capabilities, capacity and diversity to deliver against today’s priorities and what we anticipate is required in the future

Knowledge and experience:

  • An experienced procurement professional who has a thorough understanding of the machinery of government
  • High level of programme management experience, having operated at a strategic level with strong track record of success in delivering financial savings
  • Experience in tendering and managing high value contracts under Government Procurement Rules, including contracts which exceed $1m. Experience in implementing best practice contract and supplier management approaches
  • Ability to build high performing teams, develop, coach and motivate staff, communicate and influence at senior levels both verbally and in writing, apply critical thinking and analysis
