About the role
The Infrastructure Procurement team deliver procurement activities for Ministry led school construction projects across New Zealand. Currently projects equate to $400m (approx.) in construction spend per year. The projects include new schools, school rebuilds, and major redevelopments, addressing roll growth needs, weather-tightness remediation, structural strengthening, and minor works.
As the Procurement Manager you will lead the management and development of the Infrastructure Procurement team who deliver ‘end to end’ procurement activities for the region. This is a leadership role and development of the Infrastructure Procurement team is required, aligning the procurement function nationally.
Key responsibilities will include:
Developing and managing a team responsible for delivering operational Infrastructure procurement requirements in the region.
Developing and implementing strategic approaches that drive efficiency and improvement through the procurement of project management, design and construction services
Providing assistance, support, advice, direction and leadership for procurement activities to ensure internal stakeholders’ needs are anticipated and met, and that opportunities with suppliers and markets developed.
Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a selection of key external and internal stakeholders up to Chief Executive level.
Engaging with markets and suppliers, striving to make it as easy as possible to be a supplier and making the Ministry a Client of Choice.
Monitoring the delivery of services over the duration of a contract and ensuring supplier performance is being managed and reported appropriately.
You will bring to this role:
Strong leadership and management skills
Significant relevant procurement experience with a strong understanding of each stage of the procurement process
Proven experience providing leadership to busy projects and ideally procurement teams
Proven experience in managing and leading organisational change
A solid understanding of construction procurement and commercial procurement experience
