Our client is a large, complex organisation who play a central role in managing the long-term growth planning and strategy for the city of Tauranga, one of New Zealand’s fastest evolving urban centres.

Working within a sizeable team of land-use planning professionals, this key role will assume responsibility for leading, project managing and substantially contributing to large and significant strategy, planning and growth management projects to deliver key policy and strategic initiatives. The role is also responsible for providing strategic thought leadership and advice across urban planning and growth management matters.

The role requires managing project teams and developing strong relationships with external parties to ensure issues are identified and addressed in a constructive manner. The role will also be significantly involved in public engagement and consultation processes under the RMA and the LGA and other related legislation.

To be considered for this position, candidates will typically have at least 10 years of experience gained in a field relevant to the management of urban growth, with proven capability in planning, policy, and project management. You will ideally be a member of the New Zealand Planning Institute (or an equivalent international planning institute).

Further requirements will include:

  • Degree in Planning, Project Management, or other field directly relevant to growth management
  • Sound understanding of both the LGA 2002 and the RMA 1991
  • Working knowledge of urban planning, transport planning and infrastructure servicing
  • Extensive experience in delivering strategic policy advice
  • Extensive experience in communicating complex issues by written and verbal means
  • Understanding of local authority internal processes
  • Effective project management skills
