Beyond Recruitment are supporting a midsized central government agency with the appointment of a Financial Accountant to join their Financial Reporting & Control team. This is a broad and hands-on role with a strong technical focus, offering exposure to statutory reporting, tax, financial systems, and month/year-end processes.
Working closely with the Senior Financial Accountant and reporting to the Manager Financial Reporting & Control, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the Ministry meets its financial obligations and maintains robust financial controls. You’ll be responsible for preparing monthly and annual reports, managing sensitive expenditure and cash forecasting, leading month-end close, and overseeing valuations and provisions. You’ll also take ownership of FBT and GST returns, CFIS actuals, fixed asset reporting, and finance system administration.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support external reporting obligations, and provide technical accounting and tax advice across the business. You’ll also assist with AP/AR queries and provide backup support to the Senior Financial Accountant when needed.
What we’re looking for:
- CA qualified (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ post-qualification experience
- Strong technical accounting skills and excellent numeracy
- Experience with FMIS and advanced Excel capability
- Public sector experience and knowledge of the Public Finance Act
- Collaborative, proactive, and solutions-focused approach
- Commitment to te ao Māori, te reo, tikanga Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
