The role is responsible for leading the Financial Accounting team to:
- Improve the Ministry’s financial compliance and internal controls including: month end coordination, integrity of the chart of accounts, technical advice of accounting standards, development and maintenance of financial policies, internal controls, balance sheet management, cash management, fixed assets management, and indirect tax compliance.
- Build and enhance the overall capability and effectiveness of the team to ensure quality and consistency of advice and practices in relation to the team’s work
- Proven ability to effectively influence and provide specialist advice to managers
- Proven experience managing the provision of financial management information
- Develops effective working relationships and builds credibility with customers at all levels, team members, and colleagues in Finance
- Deliver results by taking ownership, and being proactive and pragmatic
- Takes a continuous improvement approach, willing to adopt new ideas and constructively challenge existing data, information, systems and processes
Desired skills and experience:
- An in-depth understanding and experience applying public sector financial management, particularly appropriations and the machinery of government and associated Treasury guidelines and processes.
- Prior experience of working with Oracle ERP, Fusion, or similar Tier 1 ERP systems in large organisations desirable.
- Proficient with financial reporting standards and indirect taxation requirements
