We are looking for a Payroll Processing Lead to join the Payroll Team of one of New Zealand’s largest community-focused public sector organizations.

The Payroll Processing Lead will be responsible for managing end to end payroll processing activities and providing support, mentoring and training to Payroll Officers that fosters high standards and high quality of service. The role ensures all staff are paid in a timely and accurate manner ensuring capability is being met to deliver an effective and efficient payroll service processing. In addition, the Payroll Processing Lead will manage the more complex transactional activity such as mediation or settlement claims with HR, providing expert advice and supporting the wider People Operations team.

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for QA across the Payroll Officers to ensure high quality work is delivered
  • Be accountable for people management across the Payroll Officers to ensure continuous capability improvement
  • Foster positive working relationships across payroll and with the wider organisation to ensure accuracy of the fortnightly pay run
  • Resolve complex enquiries and assist in escalated payroll issues and implementing corrective action where required providing a strong customer service focus outcome
  • Escalate complex queries to Payroll Operations Lead or across the wider P&C teams as required

You will bring to this role:

  • Experience in a complex Payroll environment and understanding of payroll legislative requirements and processes impacting payroll, such as taxation, ACC, Holidays Act, and Wages Protection Act
  • Proven experience leading and motivating a team, or the desire to step up into a role where you will mentor direct reports
  • Strong ability to prioritise and manage tasks efficiently within
  • An understanding (or an openness to developing an understanding) of the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to the work of government departments
