Reporting to the Manager Rail Licencing, the purpose of this role is to deliver effective regulatory management through monitoring and ensuring the compliance of rail license holders and rail participants.
Senior Rail Safety Officers are expected to carry out the full range of regulatory functions to ensure the organisation is effective in delivering its rail regulatory responsibilities.
The role requires you to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, in a continuous improvement environment, by providing advice and direction to rail participants on rail transport safety matters.

• 5+ years applied experience and knowledge in a relevant field
• Extensive practical experience and knowledge in a transport or related industry
• Experience in assessment (audit) planning, delivery and reporting
• Detailed understanding of regulatory principles and practices
• Experience using a range of regulatory interventions based on strong data analysis
• Strong investigative, risk assurance or lead audit experience
• Significant regulatory compliance experience
• Extensive practical experience and knowledge in a relevant industry
• Proven experience in performance or outcome monitoring
• Proven success in the building and maintenance of effective relationships
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills
• Willingness to travel throughout New Zealand
This role is largely regulatory focussed and will be managing the licencing of operators in the rail space, The role will assess and maintain the licences and ensure compliance with the licences.
An understanding of the rail industry is not essential , however would be well regarded.
