We are partnering with Whittaker’s to find an NZ Marketing Manager that is passionate about Chocolate, passionate about quality and sustainability, and driven to deliver strong returns to the business. The purpose of this role is to lead the annual marketing strategy, budgeting, planning, and execution for the New Zealand market, ensuring Whittaker's remains the leading chocolate brand in New Zealand and achieves annual sales targets and marketing objectives.

This role is also responsible for the successful execution of the Whittaker’s Brand Strategy and creative campaign in the New Zealand market, owning the product strategy and management for a product portfolio within the Whittaker’s product set (alongside the Brand Managers);  Leading the marketing strategy, planning and execution to drive growth across the core range; and leading the project management to identify and bring new products (NPD) and product updates to life for our customers for specific projects.

This is a permanent, full time role to be based out of Porirua, Wellington Region.

Key Deliverables:

  • Responsible for the leadership and management of the Marketing Coordinator.
  • Working with the Brand Managers and marketing and sales team to deliver presentations and engagement and training sessions with Whittaker's Sales team, sales agency and wider Whittaker's team.
  • Manage the day-to-day Agency relationships and planning.
  • Responsible for preparing and participating in Agency quarterly reviews with the CMO.
  • Working with the agency to create and deliver innovative and best in class marketing campaigns. Ensuring timelines are clear, deadlines are met and budgets adhered to.
  • Facilitate sharing of ideas, knowledge, and best practices to improve processes and solve problems.

New Zealand Market Deliverables:

  • Responsible for leading the annual marketing plan and budget development to deliver on the long-term marketing strategy, brand aspirations and annual sales targets. .
  • Responsible for the successful development and implementation of the annual brand campaign working closely with the CMO and Co-CCO.
  • Taking a lead role in developing the annual NPD grid in collaboration with key individuals across the business.
  • Lead quarterly activity planning with the internal team and key agencies, to ensure appropriate resourcing and prioritisation.
  • Lead the development of the internal engagement approach for the broader team, setting up and agreeing key principles and channels for what and how the Marketing and NPD team communicate and share across the business. 
  • Responsible for leading the development and implementation to standardise documentation and project management templates for the stage and gate process and project management of product and marketing related projects.
  • Lead the implementation of Whittaker’s Rainforest Alliance certification across all products and packaging as required and ensuring that it’s resourced and planned appropriately across the team.
  • Working closely with co-CCO (Holly Whittaker) and CMO, lead development and implementation, and associated marketing of key initiatives of the Good Honest Chocolate strategy (Sustainability & Community)

Product Specific Deliverables:

  • Responsible for managing and implementing all aspects of selected product marketing campaigns to drive awareness and sales, including campaign strategy, execution and media
  • Owning and accountable for taking products through the Stage and Gate process to ensure products can be successfully launched. Including the development of the business case, identifying risks and leading the project team to minimise risks and increase profitability.
  • Working collaboratively with NPD managers to develop new products, both core and limited edition that align with the Whittaker's product strategy and reinforce the brand character and positioning.
  • Accountable for leading the post implementation review related to both the product launch with the outcome of determining what worked, what didn't and recommendations for improvements to be applied for future campaigns

We are looking for someone with the following experience and skills:

  • Previous experience in a Marketing Manager role and extensive experience in a Brand Manager role. Preferably in FMCG or a manufacturing business.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively within a team and taking on a leadership role within the organisation to drive successful outcomes.
  • Proven experience across the entire marketing mix including NPD, launches, consumer brand communication, digital, packaging, point of sale and leveraging category and consumer insights.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A resilient nature and the ability to think quickly and on your feet and adapt well to change.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
