Are you a seasoned Accounts Payable leader ready to step into a high-impact role within a large and complex financial environment where the numbers are counted in billions?
We’re seeking a confident and capable manager to lead a Financial Processing team of 8, including senior and specialist AP professionals, in an evolving finance function with high levels of support and investment. This is a one-year fixed-term opportunity covering an internal secondment, working with a significant government agency, making New Zealand Aotearoa a better place to live for all Kiwis.
This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing high volume daily payment runs. You will be supported by a team of 8 AP specialists, running an SAP system with Flexipurchase and automated invoice scanning and coding tech.
You’ll be instrumental in embedding new processes, including the rollout of purchase orders and e-invoicing, along with several other continuous improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the AP team across Wellington and Christchurch
- Oversee daily payment operations and ensure adherence to payment targets
- Drive process improvements and system upgrades, including PO implementation and automation
- Manage relationships with technology providers, banks, and system integrators
- Support internal controls, reconciliations, and audit responses
- Collaborate with project teams and senior stakeholders to embed change
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience managing AP teams in complex environments
- Strong working knowledge of SAP and Flexipurchase systems
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement and team leadership
- Commercial mindset with experience in large-scale organisations (government or private sector)
- Comfortable with change, accurate with documentation, and seeking continuous improvement
- Pragmatic, easy to work with, and focused on outcomes
