What you will do:

The Senior Financial Accountant is a lead role in the Financial Accounting Team providing direct support to the Manager Financial Accounting.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing technical accounting expertise to support decision making within NZDF.
  • This role will be required to communicate accounting information to management and non-finance personnel to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • The preparation of NZDF annual financial statements as well as month end and year end financial close processes and reporting and taxation.
  • This role is central to ensuring all legislative finance requirements are met.

What we need:

  • Good knowledge of appropriations management and Public Finance Act requirements.
  • Ability to write technical opinions by interpreting accounting standards, Defence policy and other public sector guidelines.
  • Ability to work well in a large team, delegating and coaching junior members and also performing a review function.
  • Ability to convey complex opinions and ideas across both finance teams and to the wider business.

  • Is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one of more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years; either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level
