We’re looking for a capable and collaborative Senior Financial Accountant to join the Financial Accounting team within a large, complex government organisation. This is a fixed-term opportunity through to October 2026, supporting a high-performing team and contributing to some of the agency’s most critical financial processes.
The Role
This is a hands-on senior role with a strong technical accounting focus. You’ll be the functional lead for a range of processes, supporting a team of three Financial Accountants, two Assistant Accountants, and a graduate. You’ll work closely with the Team Leader to provide oversight, guidance, and continuity across the team.
Key priorities include:
- Leading or reviewing valuations, baseline updates, and Estimates in the new year
- Providing technical accounting advice and mentoring across the team
- Supporting financial reporting and compliance processes
- Acting as a key contact for auditors, Treasury, and other external stakeholders

- Experience as a functional leader; managing work, not necessarily people
- Strong technical accounting capability, ideally with public sector experience
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and excellent communication skills
